In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia attached to her shirt.
